Veronique Sanson Biography |

|
24th April, 1949, Véronique-Marie-Line Sanson was born at Boulogne- Billancourt, Belvédère Clinic. Violaine is her older sister, born 15th May 1947.
Their parents are Colette and René who met during the German occupation. This is why both of their daughters` names begin with a "V" - denoting "victory". Véro comes from a family of jazz and classical music. Véro took piano lessons, but learnt preferably by ear. Musical influences include Mozart, Gershwin, Sergio Mendès, The Double Six, The Mamas and the Papas, Ray Charles, The Beatles, Dionne Warwick, and Bobbie Gentrie. During the 1950s she stayed in England and Spain during her holidays to learn the languages, and now she speaks perfect English and Spanish as well as other European languages. When she was 10 or 11 years old, she performed a children`s version of Gershwin`s "Rhapsody in Blue" at the salle Gaveau, Paris. Véronique lived in England for a year when she was 14, and made some guitar compositions. Then tragically, Véro was hit by Meningitis during the summer of 1965, but fortunately she fully recovered except for the loss of some memories. She met François Bernhein during the summer of 1966 on Caldetas beach, Costa Brava, Spain. During her 3-year "bac" (1967) she recorded two 45s with Violaine and François Bernheim (who now writes for Patricia Kaas). Under the Pathé-Marconi label, they recorded "Maria de Tusha" and "Pour ma symphonie", but without any success. The name of the trio was "Les Roche-Martin", and produced by Michel Berger and Claude-Michel Schönberg. They made their releases in April and November of 1967. After these singles, Pathé-Marconi stopped the contract. Early in her career, she wrote "Mon Voisin" for Isabelle de Funès, later to appear on her own album released in 1992. She is now at the same time pianiste, writer, composer, performer, and often producer/orchestrator of her songs. The first solo single was released in 1969, produced by Michel Berger. It was called "Le printemps est là", but it did not sell well. She recorded her first Elekra (WEA) album over 2 days in December of 1971. The song "Panne de cœur" was not released from these recordings. The album "Amoureuse" saw immediate success. "Bernard`s Song (il n`est de nulle part)" from the Hollywood album, was written after her producer/manager Bernard Saint-Paul. Her song entitled "Je serai là" (from her album "Laisse-la vivre") is the reply to Michel Berger`s song "Sera-tu là?". On 26 March 1972, Stephen Stills plays at the Olympia, and meets Véro at WEA. Véronique married Stephen Stills on 14 March 1973 near Guildford, England, where he had a home. Then they moved to Colorado.. Her titles written for Stephen Stills include "Je suis la seule", "When we`re together", and How Many Lies". Their son Christopher was born on 19th April 1974 in Denver, Colorado. The relationship lasted until 1979. Today, and since 1995, Véro is married to Pièrre Palmade. Véro gave her first concerts in 1972 (Eiffel Tower), and her single "Besoin de Personne" sold 200,000 copies in 5 months. Veronique`s first large-scale tour was from 15 April - 14 May 1977, with Michel Jonasz in support. From 30 May - 1 June 1978 she played two concerts per day at the Palais des Sports, Paris. In February of 1980 she played a small tour of Germany. The 1972 hit "Amoureuse" has been recorded by Véro in English, French, German, Italian, and Sp Biography Credit: www.wedgeparts.com/vero/Veronique/Miscellaneous/biography.htm |
