Stone was born in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was a member of the Valley Youth Theatre, a regional theater in Phoenix, Arizona, appearing in stage productions of The Wind in the Willows, A Winnie-the-Pooh Christmas Tail, The Princess and the Pea, Cinderella, The Wiz, Titanic, Honk!, The Little Mermaid, Schoolhouse Rock Live!, Alice in Wonderland and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She launched a career in television after winning the role of Laurie Partridge on In Search of the New Partridge Family, a VH1 talent competition. The resulting show, The New Partridge Family, only produced a pilot episode. Stone next appeared in the television series Medium, Malcolm in the Middle and Lucky Louie.

In 2007, Stone had a recurring role on the Fox television drama series Drive until its cancellation, and appeared in the teen comedy film Superbad. In 2008, Stone will appear in the films The Rocker with Rainn Wilson and House Bunny starring Anna Faris. House Bunny, written by the screenwriters of Legally Blonde, tells the story of a Playboy Bunny who gets kicked out of The Playboy Mansion and moves into a college sorority. Stone plays the president of the sorority.
